Olive Oyl character child's hand puppet. Plastic molded head with black hair. Red ribbon bow around neck. Printed red cotton (?) fabric body. White felt four finger hands. White bias tape hem casing. Two metal staples fasten molded head to puppet body. Inscription on tag: "Olive Oyl/ Copyright King Features Syndicate Inc."
Notes:
Childhood toy belonged to Mary Ann Parke. Used during mid to late 1950's and probably early 1960's. See also Popeye puppet 2002.11.088. These "Popeye the Sailor man" characters are a sample of the many puppets, most storybook characters that were popular toys. Often small stages were improvised as part of an afternoon of fun with these hand puppet. Olive Owl was Popeye's girlfriend.
