Description:
Taxidermied black bear with back legs on rear of triangular faux rock, front proper right paw on piece of driftwood at apex of triangular rock. Proper left front paw reaches forward. Head turned slightly toward proper left, mouth slightly open. Bear has black fur with brownish fur on back, pale muzzle and patch of white fur in "V" shape on chest.
Notes:
Plaque inside on brass reads: "BLACK BEAR / Taken May 1989 / By: Jim Matson / Home Shore, AK". Plaque on case: "Northstar Taxidermy".
Case not accessioned. Displayed at Alaska Vision Center until donor retired. Called "Victor" for "V" on his chest. Rock—like mount on wheels, can be lifed by two people. Case disassembles, glass panels all come out. Case on six wheels.
Wife of donor is Phyllice Bradner. Taxidermy done by Don Oberding (see information in file.) Male bear, maybe 4 years old and around 300 lbs, shot behind the front leg in the lungs with a 300 Weatherby.
