Title:
DAR beaded banner on rod
Date:
01/01/1958
Description:
Large felt cloth banner hung from a hollow metal rod by four wide loops. Horizontal in format, the center panel is white with a beaded medallion at the center in opaque blue and translucent yellow beads, "DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION" and 13 stars. Below in beaded letters, "Mt. Juneau DAR 1958" Narrower light blue panels flank center panel. Edges have decorative border of seed beads and zig zag of tubular beads. Back is completely blue, plain, has a seam up the center. Seems to have a stiff material inside. Gold cord with frayed tassels at the ends is tied to the two ends of the metal rod for hanging.
Notes:
Donor's mother, Amy Lou Barney, was involved with setting up this organization in Juneau, and was the state regent twice. The organization would have a courthouse reception for new citizens, initially with the family tea service. Eventually disbanded, but Renee remembers meetings as late as 1988
