Description:
2 inch Sieve
Made from two (2) pieces of wood bent in a circle. The wider piece is on the inside and the narrower piece is at the bottom on the outside. Pieces are nailed together with metal nails. On the inside their is wire to form the grating. Writing around the outside of the sieve: (in black pen) U.S. Bureau of Mines, 2—inch, U.S. Bureau of Mines, (in orange paint) 8090, (in black pen) 345M12, 2—inch, 2—inch. There is a splattering of gray paint over the words "2—inch" that are closest to the nails.
Used to seperate gravel from placer samples prior to gold analysis of the fines.
