Freight sled
Freight sled, painted red, with two steel runners that cover the bottom of the wooded sled runners and curve up and around the top. Two pieces of hemp rope are attached to the sled. One is a loop with its two ends attached to holes that are run through the forward end of the runners. The other length of rope is tied to the top rail at proper right. On the back of the sled on the second slat from proper right is painted in black paint : "USBM/A—237"

Notes:
This sledge was used by field geologists in the US Bureau of Mines to do fieldwork throughout the State in the days before helicopters made transportation to isloted areas relatively easy. These sleds were packed with the geologist's field equipment and would have been dragged from site to site over snow.
