Description:
Oil on canvas painting of downtown Juneau and Mount Juneau by Richard (Dick) Zagars completed in 1973. The Gastineau Channel and downtown Juneau fill the foregound of the painting. The State Office Building, Governor's Mansion and other landmarks of the city are clearly visible. A snow covered Mount Juneau fills the middle ground and background. The painting has an overall blue appearance suggesting the cool winter air. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower proper left corner. Framed and matted in a wood frame; no glass.
Notes:
According to Zagars: This was painted during construction of the State Office Building. At that time I lived in Juneau and drove over the Juneau—Douglas Bridge, made sketches of the buildings with the aid of binoculars, mixed colors, and returned home to work on the canvas —— a little too large to fit in my car. It took about a month to complete.
