Description:
65.5—inch by 242—inch painting. Fifteen dancing figures dressed in traditional Tlingit apparel and carrying traditional ceremonial objects. Dance regalia includes headpieces, paddles, rattles, drum, and staff. Five male figures wear Chilkat blankets, nine female figures wear button blankets, and one male wears a beaded dance dress. Figures, left to right, include: male in beaded dance dress beating drum; female; male with rattle; two females with rattles; male with staff; female with rattle; female; male with rattle; female with two paddles; male; female with rattle; female; male with rattle; female with rattle. Figures dance on background of off—white with golden cream border six inches wide at top and nine inches wide at bottom in stained wood frame.
Inscription: "Rie Munoz 1962" in red paint at lower right corner.
Notes:
Painted in summer of 1962 by Rie Munoz on speculation at the old Charles Dicks gallery on South Franklin. It took 4 months to complete with Jay Crondahl assisting with background. Tom Morgan of the Rotary Club saw it, had Rotary Club purchased AND donated it to City. Displayed in Library for years. Moved to airport over luggage belt until airport renovation about 1988.

Models for the painting were from the Chilkat Dancers of Haines, and came from both Haines and Yakutat. They include Debbie Harry, Walter Porter, Teresa Porter—Gray and Carl Heinmiller.
