Small Ship's Brass bell on Pivoting Arm

Description:
Wall mount brass ship's bell composed of cast bell (in typical hand bell shape) riveted to rotating handle, which slide onto extension of wall bracket and held in place with pin. Wall bracket has 3 circular openings for fasteners. Brass clapper held in place with cotton string is not original. Gold nylon cord woven through handle eyeholes probably not original.
Inscription: on clapper: 'MATTHE__S" / "12SE"
Notes:
Bell from local seiner, possibly "Barbara V", owned by donor's father, Bill Walker.
Mr. Hirsh ("Two—Step") came to Alaska in 1879. Butcher by trade in Juneau, prospector in Dawson, Fairbanks, Nome and Interior. Well known through out Alaska. Had a cabin at head of Tenakee Inlet. (Items came from Tenakee Historical Collection through Mr. Walker.) He died in Juneau in 1944 (see doc file for additional info.) (Items brought to Museum by Marie Darlin from Mr. Walker)
