Frances Davis is considered one of Alaska's pioneer artists. She fell in love with her surroundings after moving from her native London in 1891. She stayed in Juneau for nearly 40 years.

Only a small percentage of her works are painted on canvas, most are done on illustration boards, boxes, and packaging materials.
