Title:
The Good Book
Artist — Creator:
Munoz, Rie
Date:
2001
Description:
Watercolor, framed, PL of frame
This watercolor was done after the artist completed the study on the PR of the frame and was unhappy with the finished product. In "The Good Book" there are more contrasting colors as well as more detail in the onion dome, walkway and ocean. The priest is less stiff and the perspective changed to include Gastineau Channel and Douglas Island.

In the center of the painting is a hexagonal building with 3 visible windows and a large round gold top. The building is blue and white, with green vegetation below the windows surrounded by a blue sidewalk. A priest in a blue gown, red beard and blue hat walks around the building holding a blue book in both hands. Coming off the PL of the hexagonal building is a white building with a blue roof and blue steeple. There is one green tree on the PL of the building and 3 green trees directly behind the building. In the background of the painting is a mountain and 3 birds in the PL top corner. In the PR of the painting is blue water with 1 sail boat, 2 houses with orange roofs are visible. A white picket fence surrounds the building.
Notes:
"I was sketching this Russian Orthodox Church one beautiful warm spring day when the priest appeared. He was leisurely strolling around the church reading a book it was but assumed it must be the Bible, hence the title."
