Description:
Large oil painting in dark greens, tans and light blues. Proper right corner shows beach with green ground cover and fallen logs with 4 tall trees. Behind trees is a mountain. Proper left is lake in front of light blue glacier. Proper left corner of glacier has 2 ice caves. Above glacier is snow covered mountain with 2 rocky peaks showing. Sky is overcast and cloudy with streaks of yellow showing on horizon in proper right corner. Painting is canvas stretched over wood(?) and tacked with nails. Back covered with white foam core board screwed to back. Lower proper left corner has VCCFA tag with painting's information typed into it from previous conservation work. Painting has no hanging apparatus or frame.
Notes:
Painting donated to museum by Allan Justus. Painting arrived damaged and was sent to Western Center For the Conservation Of Fine Arts in Colorado (1999). Large tear was repaired by conservator. Check out website on Schafer: ffscat.LCS.mit.edu/ffshtml/
