Description:
View from water of six—tiered mining structure with red roofs built on green forested mountainside. Two smaller buildings, white with red roofs, stand on grey area supported by pilings. Left of buildings, across road behind them, are two fuel or oil tanks. Narrow partially covered shaft leads uphill from small structure with red roof on road at right side. Sky and water are blue. White border surrounds composition. Single blue mat, frame grey metal with glass. CBJ Property #04535.

Notes:
Acquired by Juneau Centennial Committee. Depicts the A.J. Mill of the Alaska—Juneau Gold Mining Compnay overlooking the waterfront on Gastineau Channel. The mill opened in 1916 and operated twenty—four hours a day, except on Christmas and 4th of July, until World War II when it was closed by the Federal Government. The mine never reopened. It burned in 1965.
