Description:
Bronze sculpture of two life—size, realistic miners using air drill. Drill attached to support on floor of mine and held by wooden braces on ceiling. Base: back and overhang represent rock walls of mine. Miner in cap and overalls, on right, kneels, guiding bit into angle formed by wall and ceiling of mine. Air hose connected to drill. There are two drill bits on floor beneath him. Miner in broad— rimmed hat with handkerchief in his back pocket, on left, stands with left foot forward, with right hand on crank at the back of the drill. Sculpture is mounted on concrete and has plaque on backside explaining hard rock mining process.
Inscription: "Ed Way 1980" engraved in bronze on left side of base. Bronze plaque on back interpreting Juneau hard rock mining.
