Basket Cockle (Clinocardium Nuttallii)
Description:
Heavy shells with coarse, radial ribs and dark concentric growth rings. Exteriors are grayish brown.
A — open attached pair, interior is dull white.
B—C — are detached matching halves, interiors are mauve to orange and white banded and shiny.
A—B — 3.5 inches by 3.25 inches by 1.0 inch
C — 6.25 inches by 4.0 inches by 3.0 inches
Notes:
Official common name "Nuttall cockle".
Donor's label reads: "BASKET COCKLE— Clinocardium nuttalii (Conrad) Found in sand flats and sometimes found entirely exposed. Burrow shallowly and have no siphon tubes. Make excellent food. Grows 4" long . From Pearl Harbor."
