Notes:
"This hardhat was issued to geologist Rod Cleland in 1977 on his first mining job at Sunshine Mine near Kellog, Idaho. The Sunshine was famous as a silver producing mine. During the next 30 years Rod wore it in a variety of jobs including geological exploration, training and supervision of diamond drill cres, calculation of ore reserves, interaction with government agencies, and work on university research projects.

In 2007 the hat came with Rod to the Greens Creek Mine on Admiralty Island, one of the largest silver producing mines in North America.

"No exception to tradition, the hardhat has acquired some stickers during its lifetime, most of which pertain to safety. No core value is more important to the miner than safety."
