Dip meter with leather case.
A — 4—inch diameter dip needle meter.
B — Brown leather case.
"GURLEY DIP NEEDLE / LAKE SUPERIOR MODEL / W. & L.E. GURLEY / TROY N.Y., U.S.A." stamped on interior of meter. "U.S.B.M. / 8757 / C.P." on plate riveted to back of meter. "80348" on foil label. "B.M. 13642 — U.S. GOV'T PROPERTY" engraved on side of meter.
B — Stitched leather case with buckle closure and long leather strap. "CP — 8757 / dip Meter" handwritten on front of case cover. "BM1" written inside case cover.
Case holds meter, but does not specifically fit meter.
Meter: 7.25 inches by 4 inches by 1.125 inches.
Case: 5.5 inches by 5 inches by 1.5 inches plus long shoulder strap.
With meter in case: 6 inches by 5.25 inches by 2.25 inches plus shoulder strap.

Used for magnetic surveys. Dip needle meter is a compass used to measure vertical component of magnetic field while searching for magnetic anomalies.
