A—B — Pair of child's skis, each made from laminated strips of wood with pointed upturned tips and central groove beneath, running from 1 inch from tip through back end. Pale wood has elegant darker stained designs: tips dark with diamond shape and area with bindings dark with tapering points in dark stain in front and behind.
Notes:
Thordis Moe, donor, is from Ketchikan, of Norwegian heritage. Family went to Norway for Xmas in 1947. Her uncle, Peder Nergaard gave her these skis for Xmas at Sandtor, Norway (near Harstad — above Arctic Circle), probably purchased them in Narvik. Skis originally had round sticker near tips of "Julenisse" — Norwegian Christmas elf. Mr. Nergaard died March 2002. Postwar, this was extravagant gift. In Juneau, circa 1979, Thordis put on new bindings. Her daughter Sonja Moe used them here in Juneau.
