Description:
Two part Raven costume. Black napped fabric covering over stiff forms. Totemic designs in colored felt, stitched to base fabric; felt areas decorated with beading.
A — Wings — two opposite and identical comma—shaped, joined to each other at top by leather shoulder "harness". Stiff internal form is fiber cased balsa. Each wing has three curved feathers at lower 16.0 inches; outer surface of each wing has totemic salmon —eye design in white, black, yellow green and red. Shoulder "harness", mandarin collar and shoulders of commercially—made rust—colored suede jacket with metal snaps, is stitched to wings. 0.75 inches by approximately 20.0 inches long moose hide strap center, stitched to back of center feather on each wing.
B — Headdress is Ravens head, padded, to be worn like a hat, a Y—shaped strip of moose hide, approximately 20" long, attached to base of each side of lead opening & act as tie. Each side of head has felt / beaded totemic feathers in green, red, white & black; eye has mother—of—pearl button in center & gold—wrapped cord & sequin trim around periphery.

Notes:
Costume was made for use by Juneau Tlingit dance group instructed by Cathy Dennis & "kept going" by Kathy Polk & Penny Horton. Salmon eye design on costume wings was copied from blanket owned by Maggie Anderson, Kathy Polk's grandmother.
