Title:
Tree v. 3 the Mollusk
Artist — Creator:
Roys, Rob
Date:
01/01/2005
Description:
Framed painting, acrylic on board, "Tree v. 3 the Mollusk" by Rob Roys. Semi—abstract with a large white circular slightly spiraled shape in the center on mottled light blue/aqua and white background. Bottom fifth of painting is blue with a green stripe and dotted rows of circles, one of yellow, and one of red. These rows of circles and circles in general are typical of Roy's work at this time period, along with drawn lines over a painterly textured surface. His works are often abstract and predominantly blue in this period as well. Frame is wide with an inner edge of small 3—D squares.
Notes:
Purchased from the Little City Gallery, run by painter Devita Stipek Writer. Rob Roys began exhibiting frequently in 2005, and had a solo exhibit at the JDCM in April 2005. He was prolific, producing a large number of small, reasonably priced paintings in the $300 range. Exhibits at the Annie Kaill gallery followed, and in late 2005, he opened Two Crows Gallery himself in a small space above the Paradise Cafe, where he hosted First Friday events for himself and other local painters.
