Description:
Metal and plastic coin bank. The bank is a clear plastic cylinder with a metal base and metal top. The metal base has a red felt cover. There is a metal rod that connects to the base and extends through a hole in the top. The rod has a small hole through which a metal lock (painted red) is secured. Around the metal rod and attached to the top is a loop that acts as a handle. A slot is cut into the metal top through which coins can be put into the bank. Eight tabs cut out of the bottom of the base are folded up and secure the base to the plastic cylinder. Text on the side of the plastic cylinder reads: "The \ B. M. Behrends Bank \ Juneau, Alaska \ "The Oldest Bank in Alaska"". A white sticker on the bottom of the base has black text that reads: "4 OZ. NET WT. \ INGREDIENTS: SUGAR, CORN SYRUP \ FRUITS, CONDENSED MILK, BUTTER, \ VEG. OIL, CITRIC ACID, SALT, LECITHIN, \ NATURAL AND ART. FLAVOR & COLOR." There is also a small metal key with key ring hooked around the lock.
Notes:
According to Mike Blackwell & Jeanie Kline, the banks originally came with candy inside them, hence the ingredients sticker on the bottom.
