Butter Paddles
Year Range from:
1890
Year Range to:
1950
Description:
Two wooden butter paddles including the handle both are 10 inches in length. The actual paddle is 3 inches across for both and the underside of the paddles has ridges.

A
Has a sticker on the handle which reads "Walker's Dept 14 6PC8 .15"
B
It is likely that paddle B also had a similar sticker as the handle shows some discoloration and the residue of a sticker but it was not included when the object was donated.
Notes:
The butter paddles were most likely used by the San Francisco Bakery.
A butter paddle is also called a butter hand or a Scotch hand. Butter paddles are used in traditional butter making to ensure that the butter has no liquid or air pockets that could cause the butter to go rancid.
