Rectangular metal body (painted tannish). At the back there is a black lever that lifts up to open a battery hatch. On the top there is a black tunning knob. There are also two uplifts out of which come the black carrying strap. Directly before the second attachment for the strap is a black button and directly after the attachment is a screen. On the bottom on the body there is a handle with a cut out space to place your hand. On one side it says "P/N 60261" in black sharpie. There is a stamp that says "UniMag" on both sides. Coming out from the front is a long black tube. The end of the tube is screwed shut.
Notes:
This instrument measures the earth's magnetic field. Variations in the field are used to prospect for buried metallic ore deposits.
