Description:
Weathered sign with black paint. In form of 2 boards (approximately 11 inches by 30 inches each). Sign has centered black text surrounded by black border. Text states: "DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE / OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY / WASHINGTON / FISHING PROHIBITED / FISHING EXCEPT WITH HAND ROD, SPEAR, OR GAFF, IS PROHIBITED / NEARER THE MOUTH OF THE STREAM THAN THIS NOTICE / PENALTY: FINE OR IMPRISONMENT, OR BOTH / THIS NOTICE IS THE PROPERTY OF THE UNITED STATES. ALL PERSONS / ARE REQUESTED AND WARNED NOT TO INTERFERE WITH IT, OR DISTURB / ITS ADJUSTMENT. / APR. 1 1933 / DANIEL C ROPER / SECRETARY OF COMMERCE". Boards are nailed to two 2.5 inches by 22 inches boards in back with 3 nails each on right and left. At top outer right and left corners, are screws with wires attached for hanging.
Back: nails from front are bent down on vertical boards.
Notes:
Removed from tree on Auke Creek by donor's father, Earl Crass about 1956. On Crass property at 12500 Auke Nu Dr, Auke Bay. He reinforced the back.
