Description:
A — Twined spruce root Tlingit basket. Design around sides in "false embroidery" technique done in stepped meander pattern in plant fiber dyed orange.
B — Lid features similar designs but includes brown and green elements. Large low cone—shaped knob in center contains filling (shot or pebbles(?) that rattle when shook.

Notes:
Baskets purchased by donor's parents, Vance & Henrietta Blackwell, sometime in mid—1930's, if not in Kake, then from the Nugget Shop. Vance & Henrietta were not generally art collectors.
