This Alaska Steamship Company lithograph poster used "Along Alaska's Sheltered Seas," a painting by Sydney Laurence to advertise the rugged beauty of the Inside Passage.
The Alaska Steamship Company was founded in 1894. Over the next 35 years they moved passengers and freight throughout Alaska . In 1930 the company was purchased by Pacific Steamship and gradually began moving more freight and fewer people. In 1954 they ended passenger service altogether and shut down completely in 1970.
