Description:
Olympic Relay torch in elongated, narrow cone shaped with slight convex curve. Bottom section almost comes to point, is made of shiny reflective metal and bears words: "light the fire within" in embossed letters. Middle section is metal w/ mat finish and tendril shapes in low relief coming down from above. "SALT LAKE 2002" in upper center with five Olympic rings and snowflake logo. At top, glass cylinder with curved vertical nebs in low relief, coppery three—part center with "XX" cutouts and flat ring of steel suspended inside glass cylinder.
Notes:
Torch used by Joe Holbert & purchased by City from Olympic Committee. Joe Holbert donated his uniform to City Museum (Collection #2002.03). 2nd torch, #2002.27.001, never used, gift to CBJ.
