Bottom is hemmed. Two strings of beads on long leather laces are stitched to the front in long "U" shapes. The beads are made from wood. The top string of beads are orange, blue, and then round red. The bottom string is purple, then natural, then green, and finally red. There is a large red round wooden bead attached with a leather thong right at the base of the V —neck of the garment. Notes:
The original owner and user of this garment was Iona Messer. She was born in 1914 and came to Juneau in the early 1920s. She graduated high school in 1932. She was in Campfire Girls when she was in school some time here in Juneau. According to her daughter, Nancy Hixon, she refered to it as a "ceremonial gown."
