Civil Defense Military Field Radio
Description:
Large metal field radio, rectangular shape and dark green olive drab paint. Protruding, slanted ear and mouth pieces and a metal plate in between "Signal Corps US Army Radio Receiver and Transmitter BC—611—D LSD Serial No 12158" Rubber covered push—button switch on the side, clear plate below covers label for Frequency, channel and bat date. Top is hinged, held closed with a screw, antenna is covered with a metal cap. On the cap, a plastic—covered loop for hanging. Base also opens on a hinge, revealing space for a battery (not present.) Top and bottom hinges double as loops for the woven cotton adjustable handle.

Notes:
Used by Arthur Walther for Civil Defense. Surplus radio from Duck Creek. Art was the head of civil defense in Juneau. Donor gave other one of the pair to Jim Ruotsala.
