Description:
A — Flag has navy blue section with forty nine five—pointed stars stitched in white nylon thread. Two rows solid white stitching joins star section to main portion of flag made of alternating red andwhite strips, each 2.75 inches wide with double row of white stitching. Upper edge of star section has white strip of sturdy cotton bunting with two metal hoops. Two rows of white stitching on bunting. Triple row white stitching at bottom of stripes.
B — 12. 5 inches by 9.5 inches by 1.5 inch box top. Blue and white with red, white and blue printing. Image of U.S. flag on staff printed against light blue circular background. Corners of top reinforced with metal. Tan interior. Printing on sides.
C — Box bottom, same size at top. White exterior; tan interior; metal reinforced corners.
D — Letter from J. George Steart, architect of Capital, to Congressman P.J. Philbin regarding flag.
E — Carbon copy of above letter.
F — 4.5 inch by 5.25 inch paper regarding care of flag.
G— 9.5 inch by 12.0 inch brown envelope which contained above D—F. In upper left corner "Certificate. The flag of the United States of America".
Inscription: A — "Annin" & fabric information on co. tag stitched to bunting strip.
B — "49 star / Flag / of the United States" stamped on top.
"Flag makers to the World since 1847 "ANNIN / the name guarantees quality" in small circle.
Notes:
Purchased by donor from Juneau's Heritage Bookshop. Shop owner Dick Wood may have collected. Letter dated 6/24/60 addressed to Congressman Philbin. Verities flag flown over U.S. Capitol.
