Description:
Tlingit Indian "Button Blanket" dance cape decorated with raven and eagle in flight. Third image outlined in pearl white plastic button on black background. Third image appears to have eye, nostril, and mouth forms. Border of red felt, 5.5 to 6 inches wide, hems the top and sides. Single row of buttons is sewn between red hem and black blanket. 3/14—inch by 4—inch rectangle of red felt is edged with black cloth and beads, decorated with floral patterns in blue, green, pink , and white seed beads and attached at side by two buttons to right top edge of blanket. Two buttonholes on other side may be used with two buttons on left side to serve as closure. Closure may be additionally secured by using short pieces of Velcro sewn across top inside edge. Four pieces of "hook" Velcro 3.5 inches to 4.5 inches come with blanket, which is unlined.
Inscription: "City & Borough of Juneau 81—1—44" in black ink marker on reverse side of beaded closure.
