Assay balance in oval metal box
Description:
Prospector's assay scale
A) oval metal box, brown outside, orange inside, wire hinge. Lid decorated with gold paint featuring an eagle in the center and a foliate border
B) Scale contraption including T—shaped bar with separate hinged part over needle. This separate part has a hole at the top for suspending the scale and a piece of wire in a figure eight link with a small fragment of blue string attached. Ends of the T—shaped arm terminate in upside down hook shapes with figure—eight shaped wire links attaching the T—bar to green string. Each arm has three pieces of green string that attach to the weighing plates.
C) flat rectangular copper colored weight with "1/DWT" scratched on one side
D) Somewhat cube—shaped copper colored metal weight with "10 DWT" stamped on one side
E) Small square metal copper—colored weight with "TROY 3 DWT" samped on one side
