Description:
Watercolor study for murals painted inside the Teenage Club run by Zach Gordon in Juneau. The building was on Seward Street and the Club was there in the early 1950s. The murals were lost when the building was demolished.

The study is painted on four cardboard pieces, each measuring eight inches by ten inches, making the study eight inches by forty inches in total. The panels were labeled A through D from left to right. The floor and doorway are drawn on to the panels and figures preforming a variety of activities are painted on to the walls.

A: Includes a couple dancing, a man on horseback, a man running, a man playing piano, one person dancing, two sitting on the floor, one in a uniform tossing a baseball, one playing a cello, half of a man carrying a fishing rod, and an icecream float.
B: Includes the other half of the man carrying a fishing rod, a dog, a man in uniform tossing a ball, a girl on roller skates, a man on skis, three people sitting or standing on the door way (the woman is holding an icecream cone), a man reading, a man dragging a large fish, and a smiling crescent moon with two stars. On the back of section B there is a pencil illustration for two characters playing billiards. Those figures did not make it in to the final mural illustration.
C: Includes a man holding a basket of fish, a woman carrying two geese, a man splitting wood with an ax, a man carrying a basket of apples, a rooster and baby chick, a man resting on a bag of food, three abstracted birds (one purple, one blue and one black), a man selling newspapers, and half a man holding a rifle.
D: Includes the other half of the man holding a rifle, a woman playing basketball, a woman carrying a steaming dish, and four people riding in an automobile. The artist's signature is located below the back wheel of the car.
Notes:
Mural study was owned by Zach Gordon. After his death, the Teenage Club became the Zach Gordon Youth Center.
