Description:
Prospector's hammer. Rusty brown iron head with one square blunt end and one gently curving tapering pointed end. Flattened iron neck is joined to handle encased in dark blue, rubber grip textured with small oval depressions. Ends of sides are perforated.
Inscription on handle: "ESTWING" & SAFE. T. SHAPE" in yellow on sides.
"Nylon E3—22P Pats. Pend. U.S.A. W" on ends.
Notes:
Found in Charles Merrill's house. Another hammer placed in education collection. See 91.44.01.
Removed from display in the permanent mining exhibit, Murray Gallery, Feb 2008.
