Description:
Pipe has bulldog—shaped bowl, made of French brierwood and slender reddish—colored stem probably made of horn. Bowl has band of five incised rings. Stem (of both wood/horn) extends from base of bowl in diamond shape, tapering to flattened end with small circular opening.
Notes:
Found during 1985 Front St. Renovation. Original #85.01.001change to .047 on 6/6/2000. 3 styles of French Bier pipes are illustrated in1902 Sears catalogue. "Brier Wood is the root of white health from France or Corsica" according to Sears 1902 catalog.
