Structures and broken—up land occupy the bottom half of the image. A man stands towards the bottom in the center. Water and the opposite shore are in the background.
Written in pencil around the bottom edge of the image and then bending up to the proper left edge, "Alaska Treadwell gold mining plant from height back of his, Douglas Island, Alaska."

On the back: "Harrison Bros. Juneau Alaska," stamp with star decoration.
Notes:
Big building near pit is 120 stamp mill. Squarish small building near pit with vertical boards in there #1 hoist, built in 1895. Big dead tree in center is now where the gate to view the Glory Hole is located. Note camera cases next to man standing in foreground (per Jim Geraghty)
