Description:
Horizontal black and white photo of 4 women and 2 men wearing coats and hats. Several are carrying lunch pails and large box. People are standing on a flat in front of small shack. Behind shack is tree covered hill with snowy mountains beyond. Date "5—1—15" in lower proper left corner. Photo is bordered by 1/8" white strip. Back of photo is printed with "POSTCARD" and has place for address, correspondence and stamp. Back is not filled out. Image in Mendenhall Valley with Heinzleman Ridge in background.

Donor's aunt is Rosellen Monagle Lillegraven & donor's grandmother, Mary Monica Hudson Monagle. Research indicates photos .001—.020 & .025 show campsite for & building of, water flume for Nugget Creek Power Plant at Mendenhall Glacier, 1912—1915.

This image is at current site of current Willie's car wash...the location where people used to come by boat from downtown to the valley area (Knutson's river ranch) Jim Geraghty talks about the woman holding the bucket being Flora Rudy, the only known picture of her he knows of, and thinks the photographer was her husband, early valley settler Charlie Rudy. Pullen is also in the photo, he says the man has a strong jawline and appears in the book Gastineau Channel Memories. Also, he thinks people used to come up Jordan Creek to bring supplies up into the valley...
