Description:
A photographic slide in a small cardboard Kodachrome frame (off white with yellow and red corner trim). The frame is labeled "Boats — July 5 '59" in handwriting. The image shows a body of water in the foreground, extending into the middling area. It is probably the Gastineau Channel. The far shore in the background is mountainous, and the peaks within the frame bear very little snowcap. This far shore is probably the southern end of the eastern coast of Douglas Island. The foreground and middling area are thick with boats, mostly clustered around a structure at the extreme right of the image. This structure, probably constructed on the near shore, seems to have docks with a number of boats moored, as well as metal buildings with peaked rooves, showing rust. In the immediate foreground, there is a larger vessel, bedecked with colorful triangular flags on its lines, as well as a bright red deck. There are several figures standing on the deck. The number "34" is printed in red ink on the frame at the upper left. Also bears the printed numerals "00052544" in black ink on the right edge, possibly a serial or developer's number.
