Title:
Evergreen Swimming Pool with Swimmers
Description:
Horizontal black and white photo of a swimming pool. There are at least eight people swimming. The life guard on the far side is putting down his pole while another is on the proper left side holding his.
Notes:
The Evergreen Bowl swimming pool was dedicated in 1941. This outdoor pool was filled by water from Gold Creek. The water was unheated and changed once a week. In the mid—1950s, with financial aid provided by Augustus Brown's will, the project of building a new indoor pool began; though construction did not start until 1971. The Augustus Brown Pool did not open until February 1973. The Evergreen Bowl outdoor pool was closed in the early to mid—1970s. Today it is the location of Cope Park. The Evergreen Bowl Swimming pool offered swimming lessons, life guard training, and summer fun to Juneau residences. After the pool closed, it was filled in and playground equipment was built on top of it.

The building seen in the back of this photograph was the changing rooms. The area in front of the rock wall in the photograph was the site of the baseball diamond.
