The Mendenhall Glacier is in the center of the photograph and is colored a light blue. Above the glacier is a snow covered mountain. Below the glacier is a line of trees and then Auke Lake where the trees, glacier and mountain are reflected.
In the foreground of the photo is a strip of land with some tree stumps in the center and taller trees on either side. On the proper left and proper right of the lake and glacier are trees and mountains.
On the proper right bottom corner is "#11" and it looks like some writing may have been cut off. On the proper left bottom corner is "Winter & Pond"
Notes:
Before the invention or color film, photographs were often hand—tinted. This was done to make images look more realistic or solely for artistic purposes. Watercolors were a popular choice, while oil paints were used in more professional studios, pastels and crayons were another option. Hand—tinting was most popular between 1900 and 1940.
