Description:
Black and white photographic print of a ship's bow and hull. A round buoy in front of the hull is attached to sheep with rope and chain. Snow covered mountains in the background are seen to the proper right. Image has a white boarder on all four sides. Back has a round stamp that reads: "P U AR EXAMI". Over part of the stamp there is a section of black paper and tape where the photograph was once attached to an album page.
Notes:
The US AFF P—510 was an emergency rescue boat in the Aleutians during WWII. 11th Air Force bombed Kiril Islands of Northern Japan in 1943—1945. The 10th Emergency Rescue Boat was assigned to them to recover air crews ditched at sea. The P—510 was built in 1944 by Fellows and Stuart in Wilmington, California with two 1500 HP Packard Engines. It was 85 feet long. Its official description was an Offshore Rescue Boat stationed at Attu.
