Description:
Black and white print of a .75 length portrait photograph of a woman. Her head is turned towards the proper left and eyes are gazing off to that side. Her hands are touching her neck. She is wearing a double strand of pearls around her neck and a ring on her left—hand pointer finger. The only clothing she wears is a shawl or a piece of fabric wrapped around her body being clutched by her bent elbows. Verso has handwritten text in pencil reading: "Bernhofer / Marye Burns / To — Helen / (sister—in—law).
Notes:
Bernhofer family came to Alaska early in the 1900's when father died and lived in Skagway with an aunt. The aunt sent Marye to Germany to train in opera. She performed a concert in Juneau in 1929.
