Black and white photo of Union Oil Company warehouse
Place:
Juneau
Date:
07/01/1930
Description:
Black and white photo of building with peaked roof, corrugated side, sliding door and large sign on roof "UNION OIL COMPANY." At top of photo, "Juneau, Trip July 1930." "Juneau" in pencil on reverse.
Notes:
Part of a series of 29 photos found by donor at garage sale in Redmond, Washington. Photos show process of moving Union Oil tanks from hillside at Thane to new location in area of Rock Dump. Mining activities made the water too shallow for delivery of fuel oil from ships at this location. The Standard Oil Dock tanks that had been located just north of the Union Oil tanks had already been moved to the Willoughby avenue location (so—called "tank farm") This information per Al Shaw, who remembered this event of Union Oil tanks moving.
