Black and white photograph of an aircraft on its side with a group of men standing around it. The airplane is being viewed from the left. Text on the side of the plane reads: "THE \ WINNIE MAE \ OF OKLAHOMA \ LOS ANGELES TO CHICAGO 9 HRS 3 MINS 4 SEC AIG 27, 1930 \ AROUND THE WORLD 8 DAYS 15 HRS 31 MIN JUNE 23 TO JULY 1, 1931". Text on the plane's tail reads "LOCKHEED \ NR—105—W". Text on the underside of the visible wing reads: "NR—105". There is a wood pole structure and a pulley system near the front of the plane. At least four men are behind the plane near the nose. Eight men are standing in a row in front of the plane's body and all eight are looking at the camera. Mountains in background. Grass and wood logs in foreground.

The Winnie Mae was Wiley Post's Lockheed Vega aircraft. None of the men standing in the row are Wiley Post. (He can be identified by his eye patch.) The Winnie Mae is in the collection of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum: http://airandspace.si.edu/collections/artifact.cfm?object=nasm_A19360030000


The album belonged to William G. Brian Harland. He was a mechanic for Alaska—Washington Airways and Alaska Southern Airways. He was based out of Juneau.
