Black and white photograph of an aircraft crashed nosed down on the ground. The airplane is being viewed from the back. Text on the underside of the visible wing reads: "NR—105". There is a group of at least 15 men standing near the airplane. A car is in the foreground. The end of another plane's wing is in the upper proper right corner of the image. The plane is the Winnie Mae which belonged to Wiley Post. The photograph was taken in Flat, Alaska.

The Winnie Mae was Wiley Post's Lockheed Vega aircraft. None of the men standing in the row are Wiley Post. (He can be identified by his eye patch.) The Winnie Mae is in the collection of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum: http://airandspace.si.edu/collections/artifact.cfm?object=nasm_A19360030000


The album belonged to William G. Brian Harland. He was a mechanic for Alaska—Washington Airways and Alaska Southern Airways. He was based out of Juneau.
