Sepia colored photo of large excavation in the ground. Writing on lower corner proper right "Glory Hole of Treadwell Mines, Douglas Island—300 ft deep". Rim of excavation has trees and snow. Slope on proper right is talus and waste rock. Mine adit visible in upper proper right.

Joseph McDonald was Treadwell Mine Superintendent from 1900 to 1902.
