The Nugget Shop sold curios, art, jewelry, and kitchenware from four different store fronts in downtown Juneau over half a century Established in 1913, the business began as a partnership between Robert Simpson, and William Wright, but before long was under the strong hand of Belle Goldstein Simpson. Belle was an aggressive and competitive businesswoman, a strong character and a tireless promoter of Juneau and the Alaska tourism trade. It closed in 1970.

The Nugget Shop moved into the Simpson Building in 1947.

Sydney Laurence had an important business relationship with the Nugget Shop. By some accounts, as much as two—thirds of his work passed through the Nugget Shop.
