Black and white photograph of six men, part of a rescue crew, in life jackets standing on the deck of a boat. All six men are wearing life jackets, hats, and boots. The man second from the proper right wears a fur hat with ear flaps. A mountain range with snow covered peaks is visible in the background. A heavy coiled rope is visible on the proper right behind the men.
Notes:
This is the rescue crew for the shipwreck of the Patterson in Cape Fairweather. The Patterson sank on December 11, 1938. The first mate and a crew man were killed when they were washed overboard, but the remaining crew were rescued. Pilot Sheldon Simmons rescued two men in his float plane, and the rest of the crew hiked out with the help of trapper Nels Ludwingson, who was dropped off at the scene by Simmons.
