Federal School/ BIA School, later known as the Teen Center. Zack Gordon ran it, and didn't segregate. It was one of the few places Native kids and white kids mixed.

Fill project seemed to use a lot of AJ miners. Amos Wallace worked on it for a while, then went the Wrangell Institute with his brother Lincoln, and then to WWII. Amos took the photos for this album, which was put together by the famous native lawyer William Paul. It is Paul's notations in the album. The fill was seen as progress and a good thing by Brian's grandparents. They spoke highly of the project. It eliminated the fear that strong Taku winds might blow the houses away.

According to Ernestine Hayes Dec 16, 2005:
Pilings are not traditional. Traditional houses may have been on S. Franklin. Fill maybe happened due to unsanitary conditions. If people used it only seasonally in the summer, the tides would clean it out. Only becomes problematic if people use homes year—round. Gold Creek was not the original resource...original name, DZ, meaning "flounder" were the resource, and they were in the channel. Gold Creek was never a major salmon stream.
June Hall interviewed Judy Franklet and Karl Nelson 8/18/2005
