Notes:
There was a large fire in Hoonah on June 14, 1944, in which much of the town burned. This 1944 fire burned much of the town. The fire began when two women were smoking salmon under a house. The destruction was massive, made worse by barrels of oil from an oil barge that had run aground at Cape Spencer, which people had stored under their houses.
