Description:
Phonograph record set of Strauss's Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life). Set includes a paper and cardboard case, a pamphlet, and five (5) records.

A: Dark Brown cardboard case for records. The case is constructed like a book. The spine has gold text reading: "STRAUSS EIN HELDENLEBEN (A Hero's Life) 1 to 10 incl. M—44". The front cover has gold text in the upper proper left reading: "STRAUSS \ EIN HELDENLEBEN \ (A Hero's Life) \ MUSICAL \ MASTERPIECES \ on VICTOR RECORDS \ (Orthophonic Recording)". The text is which in a gold square. At the bottom of that square is an illustration of a dog looking into the horn of a phonograph with the text "HIS MASTER'S VOICE". Back cover has no text. Interior pages are brown paper sleeves that hold the five (5) records. There is a white paper sticker attached to the top edge of the spine with hand written text in pencil reading "38".

B: Pamphlet made of white paper with black text. The front cover reads: "Richard Strauss \ EIN HELDENLEBEN \ (A HERO'S LIFE) \ Played by WILLEM MENGELBERG \ and the \ NEW YORK PHILARMONIC \ SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA". There are ten (10) front and back pages including the cover pages. Text inside relates to the composer Richard Strauss, the music and the record company.

C: Phonograph record made of black resin with a red painted center. Side A has gold text at center reading: "VE \ Orthophonic Recording \ HIS MASTER'S VOICE \ [indescernable text] \ Victrola \ REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. M. de F. M IND. ROTRDA. Side B has identification numbers M 44—4 and 6983—B. The music is Part 4 of Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life). This part also has a violin solo Scipione Guidi.

E: Side A has record identifcation numbers M 44—5 and 6984—A. The music is Part 5 of Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life). This part also has a violin solo Scipione Guidi. Record from the Augustus Brown collection. Brown donated 1,500+ records to the Memorial Library. In the 1980's approximately 800—900 were purchased by donor's father.
